We’ve been growing our business for forty-four years. It’s high time we started growing some vegetables.

Dalen is excited to announce the new addition of our on-site company garden! While the garden will be a fantastic place to demonstrate our current products and to test out new prototypes, its main purpose will be to offer employees a space to garden together and enjoy the fruits of their labors.

We found the perfect spot – a sunny, open location near the beautiful wetlands that surround Dalen. To help with ergonomics and to keep the garden tidy, we installed our Rustic Raised Bed Gardens and filled them with soil from a local company.

As part of our preparation, we’ll also be organizing a cleanup of the wetlands area and we’ve installed in-house made compost bins to reduce our waste and to help fertilize the garden. The garden will be a keystone in our environmental efforts, providing staff with fresh produce to take home and a space to compost food scraps.
For our first year we’ll have six beds, with nineteen participants grouped into six teams. Each team will care for one of the beds, dividing up growing space, responsibilities, and rewards. We hope to later expand the program to include many more beds and company participants.

While the staff at Dalen will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the garden, we’re also very thankful to Beardsley Farms volunteers Charlotte Rodina, Adrienne Seldon, and Sarah Kenney for their advice and support throughout the process, for germinating the plants for us, and for their participation in helping us to set up the beds! A huge thank-you to everyone from the company who came out and either volunteered for a bed or provided support in other ways.
